Overview
Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve is the only reserve available for hunting in Nepal. This hunting reserve was established in 1987 with the main motive of pleasuring the needs of the hunters of Nepal and foreign land. Dhorpatan covers an area of about 1325sq km and divided into six blocks for the purpose of hunting. The hunting reserve is located in the area of the western part of Nepal covering the districts of Rukum, Baglun and Myagdi on the southern edge of Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167m). It has got the best time period for hunting in March, April, October and November. The mostly hunted animal in this region are the blue sheeps, wild boar, Himalayan Tahr, barking deers and spotted dears. Hunters require the licence/permit for hunting in the region. Dhorpatan has gain its attraction because of the habitat of the endangered and rare animals in this region like Red Panda and Musk deers. Multiple races with diverse culture resides in this region. People of caste like Thakali, magar, chettri, brahmin, sunar and tibetan are the locals of this region whose living depends upon the occupation of farming, cattelling,trade etc.
Dhorpatan is also famous for its splendid environment and culturally rich trekking area. Trek to Dhorpatan is also a pleasure activity performed in this region which is the best destination for the hunters and wild life enthusiastic trekkers. It is the fabulous place for filming the wildlife too as it has various species of birds and endangered species of pheasants. The cost is extra for filming purpose in the region.
